Okay, as a designer you get a lot of “you know what you should do?” and “why don’t you make…?” most people are very sweet thinking of ideas to help me design new items, but the truth is you only ever do well anything if you are passionate about it!, so even tho this ideas are (for most part) workable and probably crowd pleasers, if I don’t ‘feel’ them I just respond with a polite “that is a good idea” and never do anything about it.
But!, a few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to have the time to sit down and catch up with a dear friend whom I have not seen for a long time, she knows what I do and has a genuine interest on my work, she is a beginner crocheter and knows only few stitches, she also admits that she gets bored very quickly if she doesn’t see quick progress. Well the conversation went something like this:
“I really want to make one of these super ‘fat’ (I think she meant chunky!) cowls with fringes, something that looks like it would have been cool in the seventies but with a modern twist”
“why don’t you give me that pattern?!, I want to make it not just buy it!… I don’t have the money to pay for one!” (she is not kidding, prices in London are mad!)
So, anyway, I decided to take on the challenge, I gave myself only the stitches that she came make to design this cowl (ch, sc, dc and sl st), and I timed how long it took me, around 3 hours, she will probably do it in two sittings… she was happy with that… so here it is, what do you think?
What I really like from this piece is how many ways you can wear it, I (personally) love it! I probably should stop making things in blue, but I just love love love! the colour so much!
