This DIY refashion doesn’t need much introduction, the little girls sundress made out of dad’s shirt is not a new concept, but I wanted to do my own version, I have refashioned leather coats into bags and I have made bags out of denim, but I wanted to make sundresses with the pile of old shirts I have at the back of our wardrobe!
I wouldn’t be much of a crochet designer if I didn’t add my own twist would I?, I used only one ball of DMC Natura XL just cotton and one of daddy’s old shirts.
Here is how i did it, I marked a straight line across just below the armwholes
Finished all the edges and did a gather stitch.
I wanted to make a little cap sleeves so I unpicked the sleeves from the shirt and cut two little sleeves, I didn’t really measure anything, I just chop them and cut them to the size I thought it will be okay really, that is what I like most of a refashion!
Again did a gather stitch all along the straight cut of the fabric and finished the edge with a little seam
I folded them in half and marked the middle, place that in the shoulder of the bodice and again sew them by hand.
I didn’t think I was going to do anything else to it but I really wanted to show that it was a preloved shirt so I decided to cut the cuffs and after folding the edges over, I made some super cute pockets!
Sew them on the sides are that is it! I love the dress and the girls love it too! I am been told that they are two and there is only one ‘Daddy dress’ so I need to make another one ASAP!
I hope this has giving you some inspiration to produce something new with something that was destine to charity or textile recycle!
Have a lovely weekend!
